Dr. Shults Offers New Service to Houma --Ortho After Hours

Orthopedic injuries happen every day and sometimes at the most inconvenient times.

In a panic, the E.R. may be your first stop, until now. Thanks to Dr. Jonathan Shults, orthopedic surgeon, you now have options!
REALLY, what do you do if you or a family member has an injury? I’m talking about the basic slip and fall, twisted ankle, mashed fingers, sports injury . . . the list goes on. The first place you may want to take them is a doctor’s office. But, what if the injury occurs after 5p.m. or during your working hours; what are you going to do? Well, typically, you are left with the Emergency Room or Urgent Care Center as your only choices. The E.R may pose a few problems for you: First, since other patients are there with ailments from A-Z, you will probably have to wait for quite a while to be seen. Second, the E.R. doctor will likely refer you to an orthopedic doctor the next day, which means you will have to take off from work, and if your child is injured, they will have to miss school. Lastly, this process will call for you to pay two separate doctor bills. For these reasons and others, Dr. Jonathan Shults, orthopedic surgeon, created a new service- Ortho After Hours. Dr. Shults knows that nearly everyone has a busy schedule, and with parents working and kids at school, it can be hard to make it to an appointment between 9-5 p.m.
Dr. Shults has regular clinic hours from 9 to 5, but also offers extended hours as needed. If you have been suffering with knee pain but have been putting it off because you cannot take time off work, they can see you at 7 p.m. They also offer orthopaedic specific urgent care of acute injuries. With this new service, if you injure your arm playing softball and want to be seen, Dr. Shults can usually see you that same day.
They offer full service orthopedic care in their office. X-rays are done in the office, and with close proximity to TGMC, most other tests are readily available. They can even admit to the hospital for severe injuries or surgeries.
In this day of increasing medical cost, higher deductibles, and full schedules, seeing the specialist from the start for your injury is a big time saver and is extremely cost effective.
*Most insurance plans do not require a referral to be seen.
